What’s in a box?
The answer to that question is ultimately up to you since you customize your box. The “default” box we make each week for those who don’t want to customize has about 8-10 items for a Micro-Sprout box, 11-15 items for a Sprout box, the farmers box 13-18 items that include exotic fruits and vegetables and 15-20 items for a Grande. The number of items depends upon the cost of an item. Some things are more expensive than others. To learn how to customize a box click the “Next” button.
Examples of an box “item” are: 1 bunch of kale, 1 lb of carrots, a pint of strawberries, 2 lbs apples, 2 lbs pears, 2 cucumbers, 1 lb zucchini, a head of garlic, a head of cauliflower, etc.
No risk of lost harvest.
In more traditional CSA models, money is invested up front for the farmer to plant the crops and, if the crops fail, you might not get very much produce for your money. We don’t have that problem. You will always get your money’s worth. Because we partner with so many farms there is an abundance of crops to choose from. For example, this year the rain destroyed much of our cherry harvest. However there was other fruit from other farms to fill in for the CSA boxes.
What kind of produce will I get in the Winter?
Some examples of produce for our Sprout and Grande winter boxes are: apples, pears, beets, carrots, garlic, potatoes, kales, chards, collards, spinach, root vegetables, onions, and sprouts. The Farmer box is all of this plus exotics like bananas, avocados, and citrus.
